HIFU Aftercare

Pre-Treatment Advice

Preparing properly before your HIFU session helps ensure the skin responds well and reduces the chance of irritation. Please follow the guidance below before your appointment.

Before your treatment:

  • Avoid sun exposure, tanning beds and self-tanning products for 2 weeks before treatment.

  • Refrain from using acid-based or exfoliating products (including glycolic, salicylic acid, AHAs, BHAs, retinol, or retinoids) for 1 week prior.

  • Inform your beautician of any changes in medication, ongoing health concerns or recent medical treatments.

  • Let your beautician know if you have a history of cold sores, as antiviral medication may be recommended to prevent flare-ups.

  • Avoid waxing, laser, chemical peels or resurfacing treatments on the target area in the weeks leading up to HIFU.

  • Keep the skin clean and free of heavy creams, make-up, or oils on the day of treatment.

  • If advised, apply any topical anaesthetic 30–45 minutes before your appointment.

  • Stay well hydrated in the days leading up to treatment, as hydrated skin typically responds better.

Post-Treatment Advice

After your HIFU treatment, the skin will begin its collagen-boosting process. Redness, warmth and tenderness are normal. Following the steps below will support healing and enhance your results.

After your treatment:

  • Expect mild redness or warmth in the treated area for a few hours; this is normal and temporary.

  • Bruising can occasionally occur, particularly around delicate areas like the eyes, and may last up to 5 days.

  • Apply a high-protection SPF daily and avoid direct sun exposure for 4 weeks post-treatment.

  • Avoid heat-based activities such as hot baths, steam rooms, saunas or intense exercise for 48 hours.

  • Do not use acid-based skincare or retinol for at least 7 days after treatment.

  • Use a gentle, non-exfoliating cleanser and light moisturiser for the first 1–2 days; resume your full routine around day 3.

  • Make-up can be applied 12 hours after treatment.

  • Refrain from alcohol immediately after treatment and stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water.

  • Avoid waxing, tweezing, depilatory creams or harsh hair-removal methods for 7 days post-treatment.

  • If you experience grazing or flaking, do not pick at the skin; allow it to heal naturally to avoid scarring.

  • Further treatments such as laser, Botox, dermal fillers or chemical peels can usually resume after 2 weeks.
